Kirkstall Art Trail 2026 Poetry Competition

Poetry has been an important part of the Kirkstall Art Trail for several years now. The inclusion of the Poetry Trail and spoken word events during the free weekend aligns with our aims to encourage engagement and education in art in its multiple forms.

Inaugural poetry competition

For 2026, we are launching our inaugural poetry competition with, the surprisingly and appropriately named, Kirkstall Art Trail Poetry Competition 2026. With two prizes, one national and one local, our ambition is to produce a collection featuring the ten best submissions. The collection will be available for sale during the Kirkstall Art Trail weekend (18 and 19 July) and on our website.

Winners

The winning poems will be selected by Kirkstall poet, Jim Corah.

  • The prize for the Kirkstall Art Trail National Poetry Prize is open to all UK residents. The prize is £30.
  • The Kirkstall Art Trail LS Poetry Prize is open to all residents with a Leeds (LS) postcode. The prize is £20.
  • A collection of the top ten poems will feature in a book, with the selected writers receiving a copy.

The prize winners, along with the writers included in the collection, will be notified before Wednesday, 30 June 2026. There will be a public announcement on Monday, 6 July 2026.

Spoken word event

On Saturday, 18 July, there will be a spoken word event. To celebrate both the Poetry Competition and the Poetry Trail, we invite entrants to come along and read their poems.
