Kirkstall Art Trail relies on volunteer venues to host artists across the weekend.
During the Art Trail weekend, living rooms, gardens, and business premises can be used as exhibition spaces.
“It was a pleasure to host two artists in my house over the weekend. Both were relatively new to exhibiting and selling work and said the atmosphere was really welcoming throughout.”
Jon, Morris Lane, 2026

The short answer is any – from houses to retail units, and even heritage and community buildings. The only criterion is that it is not too difficult for the general public to locate.
- Venue address.
- Main contact name, phone number, and email address.
- Access information (guidance and support available – see Planning for an accessible day at the 2026 Art Trail).
- How many artists the venue can host.
Discussions can happen face-to-face, by phone, or by email.
Once all artist applications are received and venues confirmed, artists are matched to venues – taking into account any preferences or accessibility requirements they’ve given.
Hosts and artists are introduced by email, which includes contact details. It is generally left to both parties to arrange a first meeting. Support from an organiser is available on request.
No. It is up to the host whether artists can attach work directly to the walls. Artists are encouraged to think about how to display their work, given they’re exhibiting in unconventional venues, and are given creative suggestions on how to do this. See How can I display my work? on the Frequently Asked Questions page for more information.
The Information for Hosts section on the Frequently Asked Questions page covers insurance, risk assessment, preparation, and more. Support from an organiser is also available throughout the event.
