Imminent Nostalgia

Vector graphic / painting / sculpture

“A latecomer to artistic expression, I started using my MacBook and the free Inkscape graphics tool to create images. Experimentation has led to a collection of images around buildings, landscapes, and representing musical performance. I have written and illustrated a children’s book. I am currently working on painting with acrylics and clay sculpture.”

Jan Doherty (A)

Textile art

“I love the detail of a leaf, lichen or flower, the flow of the water, the colour and texture of bricks and stones and I enjoy the changes throughout the year. Colour and texture are integral to my work. I create quilted collages and monoprints using self-dyed and printed fabrics, to build rich layers that invite deeper exploration.”

Luísa Freitas (A)

Art form

“I am Luisa Freitas, a Visual Artist, working in Illustration and 2D Animation. I work with traditional as well as digital art mediums in various works. My solo art projects are focused on visual storytelling, using striking images to convey an impactful message to the audience. As a freelance artist, I also run community art projects and events with creative organisations to bring the arts to the local communities and make it more accessible for the audience. I deliver art workshops for people of all ages with schools, museums and local communities. I have been working in the visual arts for the last six years and what I enjoy the most is exploring the local arts scene and collaborating with creatives and organisations.”

Ping Kelly

Painting – oil

“I am a graduate of Yunnan Arts University in Kunming. My preference is for abstract painting in oils, but I have experimented with acrylics and watercolours in the traditional Chinese style. After settling in the UK, I developed my skills as a portrait painter and recently ventured into landscapes.”

Found objects / photography /drawing / installation

“I am a self-taught artist and curator from North Lincolnshire. My artwork often comes about through a slow process of collecting items and ideas. I express myself through acts of ‘Re-appreciation’ – creating mixed media pieces that often consist of found objects, drawings, and photography. The labour of empathy and loss are key themes in my work, with lots of helpings of class struggle, gender deviance, and British heritage mixed into the final piece.”
