People and Places: A Kirkstall Photographic Competition
Are you ready to show off your eye for beauty, community, and character?
Whether you’re a seasoned shutterbug or a phone-photo fanatic, we invite photographers of all skills to celebrate the vibrant spirit of Kirkstall.
The brief
Submit your most powerful portraits and striking scenes. From familiar faces to hidden corners, we want your unique take on what makes Kirkstall special.
The only criteria is that the photo must have been taken in Kirkstall.
You can submit up to 3 photos per category – ‘People’ or ‘Places’.
Please select high quality images with a minimum size of 3000 pixels on the shortest edge. There is a brief explanation on how to find the size of your image, if you are unsure on where to find this information.
The winners
Three winners will:
- have their images professionally printed and framed
- be exhibited at Chunk Bakery on Kirkstall Hill during, and after, the art trail
- feature on the Kirkstall Art Trail website
- win a photographic voucher for Take It Easy Lab
- get to keep their framed photograph after the exhbition has ended

Your photo should be submitted before 10 July.

Terms and Conditions
- You must submit your photo before the deadline on 10 July 2025.
- By submitting your photo, you enter into an agreement that:
- it can be used for the purpose of the ‘Capture Kirkstall’ Photographic Competition.
- we can use it for relevant promotional purposes.
- without payment to you.
- without seeking your further approval.
- The promotions may include the use of your photo on the internet. We may store the photo in a digital format for this purpose.
- By agreeing, you are granting us a non-exclusive copyright license.
- By submitting your photo, you consent to Kirkstall Art Trail processing your personal data for the purpose of the ‘Capture Kirkstall’ Photographic Competition and as described in the Privacy Policy.
- The image must be an original photograph taken by you.
- You must make sure that your work does not and will not infringe on any other copyright.
- You must make sure that no information contained in your work is untruthful or harmful.
- The ‘Capture Kirkstall’ Photographic Competition is free to enter.
- The ‘Capture Kirkstall’ Photographic Competition is open to all ages. However if you are under 18, you must have parental consent for your entry into the Photographic Competition and to these Terms and Conditions.
- You can only upload one image per application.
- You can submit up to 3 photographs per category (People or Places).
- Any photographs submitted past this number will not be judged.
- Selection is made at the organisers’ discretion.
How to find the size of your photo
Smartphones
iPhone
In the Photos app, tap on the image to open it. You can either tap on the ‘info’ icon ⓘ beneath it or swipe up on the image.
Android
In the Photos app, select your photo, click the three dots icon ●●● in the top right-hand corner, and select ‘Details’ from the menu that appears. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the image size.
Technical information
This will give you the technical information for the photo, including the date it was taken, the size, and the camera settings. The size of the photograph is shown in three different ways:
- resolution – megapixels (MP)
- dimensions – width and height in pixels
- file size – megabytes (MB)

Desktops or laptops
For Macs
- Open your photo in the Preview app.
- Click on the ‘inspector’ icon ⓘ located on the panel above the photo.
- This will open a pop-up window.
- The image size is shown on the general info panel.
For PCs
- Open File Explorer and go to the folder containing your image.
- Right-click on the photo file you want to check.
- From this menu, click on ‘Properties’.
- In the Properties window, go to the ‘Details’ tab.
- The Details tab will show you your image dimensions, file size, DPI, and more.
- The dimensions in pixels for your photo are under the ‘Image’ heading.
