Sparking Community
Gardening
“My name’s Grace, and I am an artist, climate activist, and guerrilla gardener. I transform neglected patches of urban land into biodiverse pockets for people and planet. I started a grassroots community garden project on my street in Kirkstall with my neighbours in 2018, featuring fruit trees and wildflower corridors. We call this space The Garden of Eden.”

Activity
Drop-in workshop. Step into The Garden of Eden in full bloom with shoulder-high colour and lots of busy bumblebees. You will have the opportunity to look around the garden and learn more about all the trees and plants. There will be plenty of art materials on hand, so take a seat and capture what you see. There’s even a typewriter for those wanting to capture the essence in the form of a poem.

Art In Eden
Painting / Drawing
Enjoy this community art gallery displaying drawings and paintings from ‘Art In Eden’. Over four sessions in May 2025, members of the public visited The Garden of Eden to take in nature. Set along a quiet street, the grass verges transform into a sea of colour, giving the artists much to draw on. You will be able to observe, as the months move from May into July, the seasonal flowers that arrived in spring giving way to the summer blooms you see now. In The Garden of Eden, you will always notice nature.
‘Art in Eden’ was made possible with funding from Kirkstall Valley Development Trust.
